The weatherman promised thunderstorms this morning, and thus, in an unprecedented move, the the HoustonFIT organizers cancelled the 21 mile run as of 2PM on Friday. Given the effort that went into understanding the number of runners and possible volunteers, I would have thought the run would be resheduled for next weekend; instead, it was moved to Sunday morning. Though I'm not terribly happy about my volunteer assignment, and not having my usual Sunday sleep in, I will be out there in the 35 degree, dry weather to help the running group out.
After the morning's storms, the skys cleared, the winds kicked up, and it almost got warm with temps reaching the 60's. Tis always better to run now instead of putting it off for tomorrow, so I joined Jon for a 7 mile run (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1499600) at 2PM. I was feeling a bit taxed a time or two during the run, but I think that was simply brought on by a case of the lazy's, as I finished feeling fairly good. My left heel is still a little gimpy, but I'm working through it. Our speed was pretty good, with a per mile average of 9:26 or so. With this run and my 3 miles on Wednesday, I think I've done a decent job of sticking to running during this week of recovery from Sunmart. After the afternoon moderation in weather, the night time turned even windier and colder. It was just sandwiched in there, but at least we had a little bit of decent weather.
On an unrelated note, I would like to propose that December 15th be recognized as International Unobservant Day. It happened repeatedly; two people sitting at green lights, one person seeing a red light so late they stopped in the middle of the intersection, and the many people at Kroger who decided it was OK to take up the whole aisle while they selected the best yogurt, canned peaches, or frozen vegetables. And don't even get my started on my trip to CircuitCity! I think people get so busy this time of year, that they just go a little brain dead. Maybe that means I really will be useful in helping people Frogger their way across Main street tomorrow morning.
