With my travels and angry foot sidelining me after the half, I returned to the roads with the Houston FIT 8 miler on Sat. morning. Pretty much dead-on 10 min/miles, though it honestly felt like I was going much faster. I was about two minutes over 10 min pace at mile four, so maybe I just felt like we were going faster because I made up most of that time over the last mile or so. Coach Patty banged her leg and head in a nasty spill on the Bayou path; hopefully she is healing up well.
I'll go out for a run tomorrow morning and then a run Tuesday night. I think I will pass on rejoining speed work this week, as we'll skip speed work next week (time off after the 25k), so I might as well wait until I can crank out several weeks of speed training in a row. We start softball on Thursday, so I'm not sure how I'll handle the Felix run; maybe I'll just run on Wednesday if the foot is feeling good.
Finally, I decided to weigh in on the decision of "Life on the Run" to drop to the half in the coming Houston event. I seem to be in the minority in my opinion that it's too early to change to the half, but in my experience, one positive run can overturn weeks, if not months, of difficult training ...

if it was just a bunch of difficult runs i certainly wouldnt be bailing on the full.
but an injury is an injury and this sucker has been going on for weeks.
as i posted in my original post, this has halted my progress, my training and my goal for Houston 2008. To just finish isnt an option, but I respect your opinion!
Thanks for posting the comment!!
