Welcome to my blogs new, more permanent home! It's name comes from one of my more famous quotes from a Mardi Gras long past. Though I ramble on about non-running things fairly often, I thought I should stick with a name that gives a nod to the running origins of this blog.
In trying to pick a name for the new blog, I originally wanted to be trendy and retro; I needed a latin phrase! Though I came up with several, most of them were already taken, no doubt by the kids in school who were a bit more trendy than I. None-the-less, I stumbled upon a very funny website; read through a few pages and I think you'll find something to laugh about - http://www.yuni.com/library/latin.html.
With the Chicago Marathon over and done for, things are at a crossroads. Running does that to you; you segment things into train, run, recover, and repeat. Now that it's time to repeat, I've got some energy for change, hopefully for the better.
Step One - I'm taking my lunch to work! Good googly moogly, shocker of shocks, could it really be! Yep kiddos, I'm packing more than breath mints and USB thumb drives in my back pack, I'm concealing a vintage 1984 Transformers lunch box (thank you EBay) with a turkey sandwich, a cup of yogurt, and some kind of veggie (carrots this week, cherry tomatoes next I think). I've also squirreled away some apple sauce and Juicy Juice boxes in my desk; those are added to the box prior to it being stashed in the work fridge. I know what you're thinking right now ... "Dang, turkey sandwich and a Juicy Juice, what a rebel!" Come lunch, viola, I'm eating better, and more predictably, which is a good thing. I always struggle with eating enough fruits and veggies, and even with the fact that when I get them they are in liquid or processed form (ummm, apple sauce!), I feel it's better than nothing. And the food downstairs, to put it in terms our cook Rosie can understand, no me gusta, muy malo!
Step Two - I'm using the oven! Wow, been a while. I cooked, literally, two Arch Molds "maximum control and comfort" running insoles for my Mizuno. This comes per advice of the Houston FIT tree doctors that my arches are basically flat lined, and that they need more support. I hope some of my left foot pain, which never seems to go away now, will do just that if I give my foot the proper support. I suppose this is a continuation of the "I'm tired of hurting when/after I run" movement that caused my to switch to Mizuno shoes. Let's hope it helps!
Step Three - I'm sleeping with a sock on. Just one. A Strassburg Sock, to be exact, as it is, again, supposed to help with heal pained caused by tight Achilles or plantar fascia. I have nothing better to do while I sleep than heal, so it seems like a no-brainer.
That's not all, but it's a few big things that have changed over the past few days. I'm glad I'm taking this natural change in my routine to tweak things for the better. The results of that tweaking will become evident, as I'll start running in the coming week. Time to pack Optimus Prime for tomorrow. Later.

Turkey sandwich and yogurt. That's the lunch of champions. I recommend adding some variety of chip-like snack item. But don't pretend you are new to bringing your lunch. You're back on the wagon.
Other big changes?
